I believe so much in the work to come. This is not just about my personal aspirations, but about the momentum of the District towards improvements and good service. I have learned so much in my representation of District 14 and I believe I have been training for this opportunity since I first began to do union work in 2010. I firmly believe that hope is not a plan – and I have a plan to move us forward to a better place every single day.
What I’ve learned from you
- Teacher Voice Survey clearly indicates that Board goals don’t reflect frontline teaching realities – this must change
- Teacher experiences with HR vary region to region – President must ensure consistency
- Working conditions differ across sites and programs – President needs knowledge to implement local feedback and ensure protections.
- After 10 years of reviewing workplace violence/injury reports, we must better organize to mitigate unsafe conditions, including stress related injuries.
- Members must know and exercise their rights regarding hazardous work: knowledge, participation in safety, and work refusal are your rights – use them!
- Provincial staffing standards must be protected through cohesive union action to prevent unnecessary disruption during era of budget constraints
What I’ve learned representing you in Union Spaces
- Represented members at multiple AMPAs (Provincial AGM), successfully moving and passing Provincial motions on behalf of d14.
- Built regional networks as Provincial Council alternate to leverage consistent contract language across districts.
- Served on multiple Provincial committees, including a term as chair of Provincial health & safety. My work in those spaces has adopted by other districts as best practices.
- Established strategic relationships with KPR ETFO, ETFO and OSSTF OT bargaining units, PVNC OECTA, CUPE 5555 and other education unions for both immediate contractual gains and future solidarity against Ford government.
- Developed strong relationships at all worksites and beyond, creating a foundation for effective leadership for d14.
What I’ve learned representing you at the Board level
- Established reputation as tough public education advocate through Health & Safety officer role in KPR
- Implemented dual-approach strategy: board conversations when effective, strong grievance advocacy when necessary
- That it is our duty to get ahead of the attendance management program to ensure it is not being used to unfairly target those who are suffering from workplace injuries, or those who need proper accommodation.
- Brings essential bargaining experience to Presidential role, critical for setting proper tone between contracts to achieve deserved gains
- Developed strategic relationships with Trustees to navigate budget austerity challenges effectively
