Well happy days D14 – we’re almost done the campaign! I can only imagine many of you are tired of the posts, the messages and the campaign literature that should appear in your mailboxes by tomorrow. But truly it is all for a greater purpose – to engage the membership and get out the vote! This election should mean the most to me as a candidate – and I’m pretty excited as you can tell 🙂
The AGM is this coming Wednesday. I am giving a speech during the TBU portion as my final ask for your support. So many of you have said you will support me for President and I am so thankful. For those of you who may not have made up your mind – I present to you one of my final two pitches: a video recorded at Fisher Drive, better known as the Board office.
This is a space where a lot of different work happens. I have supported OSSTF members such as Danielle Smyth Moher and Marilyn Lee — but I’ve also fought for appreciable wins in this space. These are halls where I carry credibility and reputational weight to get things done. These are the halls where I’ve gotten the Ministry of Labour to issue orders for the protection of workers. I’ve bargained here, I’ve advocated here, and I’ve engaged the Trustees here when we need to escalate situations. While I do believe that open warfare against KPR is a bad strategy, it does not mean always agreeing with their position. Every action deserves a measured and strategic response and we have done that, informed by your stories and experiences. I will keep doing that if elected.
Our relationship with KPR is changing, mainly due to the chronic underfunding from the Doug Ford government. It is our job to get the trustees and senior team to be more political where they are able, and to keep their ears open when we bring things forward. To end up in a war of grievances will only make issues take longer and longer to solve.
Tomorrow we conclude the social media campaign. I hope you are still watching and are interested in what I’m doing. D14, I hope I have your support to be the next President of the TBU.
